A NEW CENTER FOR LIFE IN HAZELWOOD...
The Hazelwood Green Campus is a center for education, research, and community focusing on urban agriculture sponsored by a local charity. It contains facilities for raised bed gardens, aquaponics, resident interns, offices, farmers markets, concerts, and other community events. The campus sprawls across the site on three major arms to enclose a meadow. The north side contains residences, the west side contains offices & event space, and the south side contains a modern greenhouse. Each building hosts solar arrays that provide the majority of power for the campus.
In order to remain cost-effective, most spaces are made out of steel framing & shipping containers, which the charity could acquire at cost. From this results a unique architecture of boxy forms and sheltering rooflines which is iterated upon across the campus.
This was a partner project with Veronia Hernandez, and her contributions are labeled accordingly.

The plan of the campus. Residences & storage is on the north wing, offices and event space are on the west wing, and the greenhouse & classrooms form the south wing.
